Marshi Smith 1999-2001 Swimming
During her three years at Woodson, Marshi Smith earned three varsity letters in swimming. While at Woodson,
Marshi won a total of six individual state titles in freestyle and backstroke sprint events, in the process setting two Virginia state records (100 yard backstroke and 100 yard freestyle). Marshi was a six-time All-American and a threetime first-team All-Met selection. Marshi’s family moved to Nevada prior to her senior year, where she won four state titles that year to help her new school to regional and state team titles. Marshi swam for the University of Arizona, where she earned All-America honors multiple times and in 2005 won both the NCAA and PAC-10 title in the 100-yard backstroke. Marshi also participated in a number of national and international competitions, winning a bronze medal at each of the 2002 Nationals and 1999 World Cup. Marshi was inducted into the University of Arizona Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.
